  • Anglican Chaplet of St. Seraphim of Sarov
    (based on Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee, by Henry J. van Dyke)

    Cross:  Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner. -- The Jesus Prayer

    Invitatory Bead:  From your youth up you have loved Christ, O blessed Saint; and aflame with the desire to work for Him alone, you have contended in unceasing prayer and labored in the wilderness.  Gaining by compunction of heart the love of Christ, you have appeared as the chosen of the Mother of God.  Therefore we cry to you: Save us by your prayers, O Father Seraphim.

    Cruciform Bead:  Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee,

    Week Beads:
    1st:  God of glory, Lord of love;
    2nd:  Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee,
    3rd:  opening to the sun above.
    4th:  Melt the clouds of sin and sadness;
    5th:  drive the dark of doubt away;
    6th:  Giver of immortal gladness,
    7th:  fill us with the light of day!

    Cruciform Bead:  All Thy works with joy surround Thee,

    Week Beads:
    1st:  earth and heaven reflect Thy rays,
    2nd:  Stars and angels sing around Thee,
    3rd:  center of unbroken praise.
    4th:  Field and forest, vale and mountain,
    5th:  flowery meadow, flashing sea,
    6th:  Singing bird and flowing fountain
    7th:  call us to rejoice in Thee.

    Cruciform Bead:  Thou art giving and forgiving,

    Week Beads:
    1st:  ever blessing, ever blessed,
    2nd:  Wellspring of the joy of living,
    3rd:  ocean depth of happy rest!
    4th:  Thou our Father, Christ our Brother,
    5th:  all who live in love are Thine;
    6th:  Teach us how to love each other,
    7th:  lift us to the joy divine.

    Cruciform Bead:  Mortals, join the happy chorus,

    Week Beads:
    1st:  which the morning stars began;
    2nd:  Father love is reigning o’er us,
    3rd:  brother love binds man to man.
    4th:  Ever singing, march we onward,
    5th:  victors in the midst of strife,
    6th:  Joyful music leads us Sunward
    7th:  in the triumph song of life.

    Exit Cross:  Having left the beauty of the world and what is corrupt in it, O Saint, you did settle in Sarov Monastery. And having lived there an angelic life, you were for many the way to salvation. Wherefore Christ has glorified you, O Father Seraphim, and has enriched you with the gift of healing and miracles. And so we cry to you: Rejoice, O Seraphim our righteous Father.
