  • Anglican Chaplet Samuel Seabury
    (based on Lectionary Lessons)

Cross:  Keep watch over yourselves and over all the flock, of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God that he obtained with the blood of his own Son.  I know that after I have gone, savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock.  Some even from your own group will come distorting the truth in order to entice the disciples to follow them.  Therefore be alert, remembering that for three years I did not cease night or day to warn everyone with tears.  And now I commend you to God and to the message of his grace, a message that is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all who are sanctified. -- Acts 20:28-32

Invitatory Bead:  We give you thanks, O Lord our God, for your goodness in bestowing upon this Church the gift of the episcopate, which we celebrate in this remembrance of the consecration of Samuel Seabury; and we pray that, joined together in unity with our bishops, and nourished by your holy Sacraments, we may proclaim the Gospel of redemption with apostolic zeal; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

Cruciform Bead:  Rejoice in the LORD -- Psalm 33:1

    Week Beads:  Psalm 33:1-5,20-21
1st:  Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous. Praise befits the upright.
2nd:  Praise the LORD with the lyre; make melody to him with the harp of ten strings.
3rd:  Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.
4th:  For the word of the LORD is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness.
5th:  He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the LORD.
6th:  Our soul waits for the LORD; he is our help and shield.
7th:  Our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name.

Exit Cross:   Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and curing every disease and every sickness.  When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.  Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few;  therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.’ -- Matthew 9:35-38

This stunning Anglican Chaplet, in honor of Samuel Seabury, features a pewter Celtic Cross, symbolizing his consecration by the Scottish Church and a pewter Episcopal Shield, in honor of the fact that he was the first American Bishop.  The beads are Black Jade, separated by small black glass and silver beads.  A small heart (representing God's love) separates the Invitatory bead from the Cruciform Bead.
