    A Prayer for Animals
    By Albert Schweitzer
    Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends the animals, especially for animals who are suffering; for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry; for all that must be put to sleep. We entreat for them all Thy mercy and pity, and for those who deal with them we ask a heart of compassion and gentle hands and kindly words. Make us be true friends to animals and so to share the blessings of the merciful.

    A Dog's Plea
    Author Unknown
    Treat me kindly, my beloved friend, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.

    Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the thing you would have me learn.

    Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear. Please take me inside when it is cold and wet, for I am a domesticated animal, no longer accustomed to bitter elements. I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth. Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst.

    Feed me clean food that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk at your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.

    And, my friend, when I am very old, and I no longer enjoy good health, hearing and sight, do not forsake me. Please see that my trusting life is taken gently. I shall leave this earth knowing with the last breath I draw that my fate was always safest in your hands.

    Prayer of A Stray
    Author Unknown
    Dear God please send me somebody who'll care!
    I'm tired of running, I'm sick with despair.

    My body is aching, it's so racked with pain,
    and dear God I pray as I run in the rain

    That someone will love me and give me a home,
    A warm cozy bed and a big juicy bone.

    My last owner tied me all day in the yard
    Sometimes with no water, and God, that was hard!

    So I chewed my leash God and I ran away
    To rummage in garbage and live as a stray.

    But now God I'm tired and hungry and cold.
    And I'm so afraid that I'll never grow old.

    They've chased me with sticks and hit me with stones
    While I run the streets just looking for bones!

    I'm not really bad God, please help if you can,
    For I have become just a "victim of man".

    I'm wormy dear God, and I'm ridden with fleas
    And all that I want is an owner to please.

    If you find one for me God, I'll try to be good
    And I won't chew their shoes, but I'll do as I should.

    I'll love them, protect them, and try to obey
    When they tell me to sit, to lie down, or stay.

    I don't think I'll make it too long on my own
    Cause I'm getting so weak and I'm so all alone.

    Each night as I sleep in the bushes I cry
    Cause I'm so afraid God, that I'm gonna die.

    And I've got so much love and devotion to give
    That I should be given a new chance to live.

    So dear God please, please answer my prayer
    And send me someone who will really care

  • Anglican Chaplet of St. Roch
    (based on The Song of Creation)

    Cross:  God Our Heavenly Father, You created the world to serve humanity's needs and to lead them to You. By our own fault we have lost the beautiful relationship which we once had with all your creation. Help us to see that by restoring our relationship with You we will also restore it with all Your creation. Give us the grace to see all animals as gifts from You and to treat them with respect for they are Your creation. We pray for all animals who are suffering as a result of our neglect. May the order You originally established be once again restored to the whole world through the merits of Your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ Who lives and reigns with You now and forever. Amen. -- Prayer For Animals, by Brother John Raymond of the Monks of the Adoration

    Invitatory Bead:  Lord God, you teach us that the commandments of heaven are summarized in love of you and love of our neighbor. By following the example of Saint Rocco in practicing works of charity may we be counted among the blessed in your kingdom. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit one God, forever and ever. Amen.

    Cruciform Bead:  O let the earth bless the Lord.--The Song of Creation

    Week Beads:  The Song of Creation - III
    1st:  O ye mountains and hills, bless ye the Lord;
    2nd:  O all ye green things upon the earth, bless ye the Lord;
    3rd:  praise him and magnify him for ever.
    4th:  O all ye fowls of the air, bless ye the Lord;
    5th:  O all ye beasts and cattle, bless ye the Lord;
    6th:  O ye children of men, bless ye the Lord;
    7th:  praise him and magnify him for ever.

    Exit Cross:  Dear Lord, you made all the creatures of the earth that we might live together in companionship. May we always care for one another.

    This stunning Prayer Chaplet, in honor of St. Roch, features a San Damiano Cross and a pewter dog charm symbolizing the dog that brought bread to St. Roch.  (This is a poodle because St. Roch was French.  However, other breeds available on request.)  The beads are black Jade (symbolizing the Plague), separated by black and silver spacers.  A small black heart (representing God's love) separates the Invitatory bead from the Cruciform Bead.
