    St. Benedict of Narsia Quotes:
  • Prayer ought to be short and pure, unless it be prolonged by the inspiration if Divine grace.

  • Girded with a faith, and the performance of good works, let us follow in Christ's path by the guidance of the Gospel; then we shall deserve to see him "who has called us into his kingdom." If we wish to attain a dwelling place in his kingdom, we shall not reach it unless we hasten there by our good deeds.
Just as there exists an evil fervor, a bitter spirit, which divides us from God and leads us to hell, so there is a good fervor which sets us apart from evil inclinations and leads us toward God and eternal life. No one should follow what he considers to be good for himself, but rather what seems good for another. Let them put Christ before all else; and may he lead us all to everlasting life.

    (based on Lectionary Lessons)

Cross:  My child, if you accept my words and treasure up my commandments within you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; if you indeed cry out for insight, and raise your voice for understanding; if you seek it like silver, and search for it as for hidden treasures-- then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk blamelessly, guarding the paths of justice and preserving the way of his faithful ones. Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path; -- Proverbs 2:1-9

Invitatory Bead:  Almighty and everlasting God, whose precepts are the wisdom of a loving Father: Give us grace, following the teaching and example of your servant Benedict, to walk with loving and willing hearts in the school of the Lord's service; let your ears be open to our prayers; and prosper with your blessing the work of our hands; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Cruciform Bead:  I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. -- Psalm 34:1

    Week Beads:  Psalm 34:2-8
1st:  My soul makes its boast in the LORD; let the humble hear and be glad.
2nd:  O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.
3rd:  I sought the LORD, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears.
4th:  Look to him, and be radiant; so your faces shall never be ashamed.
5th:  This poor soul cried, and was heard by the LORD, and was saved from every trouble.
6th:  The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.
7th:  O taste and see that the LORD is good; happy are those who take refuge in him.

Exit Cross:  Whoever does not carry the cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not first sit down and estimate the cost, to see whether he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it will begin to ridicule him, saying, “This fellow began to build and was not able to finish.” Or what king, going out to wage war against another king, will not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to oppose the one who comes against him with twenty thousand? If he cannot, then, while the other is still far away, he sends a delegation and asks for the terms of peace. So therefore, none of you can become my disciple if you do not give up all your possessions. -- Luke 14:27-33

These Anglican Chaplets are made as bracelets in Liturgical colors, mirroring the colors experienced at church to get the effect of sacred time spilling out into and filling secular time.  Wearing these chaplets enables one to reclaim and sanctify time and to identifies the wearer as a disciple.  Being prayer beads they are also a reminder to seek and be in God's presence whenever one can, wherever one is and in whatever one is doing.  These bracelets are made with various beads - some genuine gem stones and some glass - to obtain the appropriate colors.  The Jubilee Medal of Montecassino, marking the 1400th anniversary of the birth of St. Benedict, and the spacers are bronze, with a gold-plated lobster claw clasp.
